James Matthews Duncan

Dr James Matthews Duncan FRS FRSE FRCP FRCPE LLD was a Scottish physician, known as a practitioner of and author on obstetrics.

The fifth child of William Duncan, a merchant, and his wife Isabella Matthews, he was born onApril 1826 in Aberdeen. After education at Aberdeen grammar school, he entered Marischal College, Aberdeen, studying Medicine and graduated M.A. in April 1843. He continued study at Edinburgh University in 1845, and, returning to Aberdeen, graduated M.D. in 1846, before he was 21.
